New Exhibition: Ezra Johnson, Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing, at the Mindy Solomon Gallery
Mindy Solomon Gallery is pleased to present Sunday Morning Coming Down. Ezra Johnson鈥檚 fourth solo exhibition at the gallery. In this group of new paintings, Johnson has been inspired by what he calls the 鈥渢ropical noir鈥 atmosphere of Tampa, engaging with objects, spaces and scenes that are built up with many layers of oil paint, applied in sheets of color often showing the residue of earlier layers.

What if we saw the world from a 45-degree angle? This topsy-turvy premise united two shows 鈥淢ernet Larsen: Thinking About C茅zanne鈥 and 鈥淒iane Simpson: 1977鈥1980鈥 at James Cohan, New York (Simpson鈥檚 show is on view through March 23; Larsen鈥檚 closed on March 16), wherein sculptures (Simpson鈥檚) and paintings (Larsen鈥檚) playfully vacillate between two and three dimensions.

Heard on NPR鈥檚 All Things Considered - CRESCENDO: Turning environmental impact data into music
When Heather O鈥橪eary started attending concerts held by USF鈥檚 School of Music in 2021, she loved how the performances made her feel. As an anthropologist, she was moved and inspired by the ebb and flow of the music. She often wondered: could her own data touching on environmental impacts be turned into music that people could enjoy and understand?

Congratulations to Elizabeth Herrmann as a top-3 awardee for the 2022-23 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. This recognition is part of USF鈥檚 ongoing commitment to enhance undergraduate teaching by recognizing and rewarding excellence. It is an important focus of the university to ensure that the foundation courses of the undergraduate curriculum receive the proper emphasis in preparing students for work in the major, as well as providing the proper foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.

Just beyond the din of afternoon rush-hour traffic on Fowler Avenue, a jam of a different kind takes shape on a sprawling USF practice field. Overhead, gray and white clouds billow against a blue backdrop, a vibrant sideshow to the cacophony of brass, woodwinds and percussion warming up beside fluttering Color Guard flags. It is as if the sky has heard the Herd and wants in on the act.

Rebecca Penneys: Acclaimed pianist aims to spread the 鈥榣anguage of peace鈥
A child prodigy, pianist Rebecca Penneys has been immersed in music since she began playing by ear as a toddler. It鈥檚 a powerful language, she says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a language of peace, and I鈥檓 definitely an advocate of peace on earth,鈥 she says. 鈥淢usic makes you smarter. When you play an instrument, it changes your thinking. The whole idea is that civilization then can go forward in a more peaceful way.鈥

Spring exhibition highlights printmaking pioneers - Creative Loafing
Graphicstudio, the printmaking workshop at the 日本无码AV (USF), has an international reputation among artists. As one of only three professional university-based print ateliers, it鈥檚 become a popular stopover in many influential artists鈥 creative journeys. As Todd Smith, the former Executive Director of the Tampa Museum of Art, once put it, through Graphicstudio, USF introduced Tampa to 鈥渁 veritable who鈥檚 who of contemporary art.鈥
